Jenn's Skin Journal: Day 1

Intro:

I'm starting a new blog post series about my skin because I thought it would be beneficial to write a journal every day regarding the condition of my skin and contributing factors to the progression of my skin, such as diet, exercise, sleep, hygiene, and stress. I got inspiration and motivation to do this from the author of a site called Skinacea. She had much worse acne than me, but now her skin is 10x better than mine. She wrote in her journal every day about what she ate, if she touched/picked her skin, products she used on her face, diet, etc. Because she did that, she knew what made her acne worse and what made it better. I have never done anything like this, so I'm not familiar with my skin. I think it is only possible to get better skin if you are familiar with it, so I think this will help tremendously.

You may wonder why I didn't start this before if I think that familiarity with one's skin greatly increases the chance of having improved skin. Well, due to my lack of motivation and self-confidence, I always thought "Why bother? I doubt it's gonna get better, and there are too many other important things to be concerned about." But, honestly, I'm just tired of having bad skin now. I know it's not the worst, but it's certainly not the best either. I dream of having skin like hers. But I know dreaming won't get me anywhere, only action and willpower will. And if she did it with that her skin in that kind of state, then I most certainly can. I think I will be able to see improvement in my skin if I keep this up, and I'm sure I'll get a boost in confidence when it does improve. So every day, I am going to post on here like I would if I was writing a journal. I'm not going to post the journal entries on my main blog because some of you guys may not want to see a blog post every day about my skin. So I'm just gonna leave it up to you guys - follow me if you want, and if you don't, then that's totally fine. This series is primarily for me anyway - to motivate me, to help me understand what my skin likes and dislikes, what makes it worse and better, etc. But if you guys are interested, then feel free to read these posts. Hopefully it will help you. :)

Now onto Day 1!

Current skin condition:
Forehead: some acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, some small bump-like acne
Upper cheeks: decent, not too many markings, clearest part of my skin; however, pores are largest in the part of my cheek nearest to my nose (normal though)
Lower cheeks: some acne scars, dry (sometimes red) patches
Jawline: most acne scars and acne, cystic acne occurs here most
Nose: blackheads
Upper lip: a little bit of acne scars, small cystic acne, acne bumps appear in this area
Chin: the most discoloration here, acne bumps appear in this area the most

Makeup: 8 hours
Diet: breakfast skipped; lunch: salad with chicken salad, 1 tbs caesar dressing, water; snack: sriracha chili peas, 4 mini snickers; dinner: a little bit of rice, kimchi jjigae, romaine lettuce, bits of roasted chicken, water
Hygiene: satisfactory, touched acne twice (upper forehead and jawline)
Stress: satisfactory
Face routine: Sephora cleansing oil, Naive green tea foaming wash, Clinique toner for sensitive skin (on and off depending on how dry my skin is), L'Oreal Paris Active Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, L'Oreal eye cream
Bedtime: TBA

Anime Review: Summer Edition

This is my first time reviewing any anime so if I make any mistakes or seem disorganized I apologize. >_<

Hanasaku Iroha: 7.5/10

First impression: Seems like a cute, heart-warming slice of life anime that I will enjoy watching.
Characters: Honestly, I never really formed a connection to any of the characters except Ohana. She's diligent, hard working, and a bright young girl that tries to make everyday a fulfilled one. She has problems with her mom and her self (about whether or not she really likes Kou) but she tries to make the best of her situation.
Art/Music: Loved the art and music. I like how the animator drew the characters ─ there's not really a distinction between who is super good-looking and not so good-looking. Very natural. Music fits with the theme of this anime.
Overall: Even though this anime did not have a serious plot, I thoroughly enjoyed this anime. If I had a bad day and watched this anime I would feel better. It made me want to live more diligently. One of my favorite slice of lifes.

Itazura na Kiss: 7/10

First impression: I knew what was in store because I saw the Korean drama version Mischievous Kiss. To be honest, it seemed like a generic romance anime but on the first episode I was hooked.
Characters: I did not become too fond of any of the characters.
Art/Music: I really liked the ending theme song! Very catchy and fits. :) The art and character design I'm not so much a fan of. I guess I'm into more modern aesthetics.
Overall: It was a fun anime to watch but I didn't really get anything out of it. It was nice to see the anime rendition of the series.

Clannad ~After Story~: 10/10
First impression: I watched the first season before and I became a fan. The second season seemed to be a continuation of the first one, literally, because they were still in school and Tomoya and Nagisa were still in the beginning stages of being bf&gf.
Characters: I began to love and endear the characters as each episode passed. I already had that connection with some of them in the first season but now I felt like I could feel their happiness, sadness, and other emotions when they went through an event. Especially when the show begins to go into the climax and when Tomoya and Nagisa become adults ─ I became really attached to them. I began to especially look up to Nagisa and Kotomi because they went through hard times but they endured and overcame their obstacles.
Art/Music: As always, the producers of Clannad used awesome, fitting music. EXCEPT. The ending theme. -__- It really ruined some of the sad episodes. As for the character design, not my absolute favorite kind but nonetheless cute and endearing.
Overall: One of my favorite anime now. I learned and felt a lot through this anime. It's a pity that I only saw it recently. If only I had watched it before I went on a hiatus on anime. Clannad ~AS~ tells an unforgettable story of hardship, friendship, love, endurance, and forgiveness. This anime honestly has affected me for the better; it has made me want to live a better life and make the most out of each day, no matter what hardships they may bring.

Chihayafuru: 8/10

First impression: Intrigued! I've never watched a josei (sport) anime because I thought it would be boring. But this anime has a good plot aside from the actual sport.
Characters: I really liked all of the characters; they were all really endearing, especially Chihaya. She's not just a pretty face ─ she's a girl with a big hopes and dreams. She works hard everyday to improve her karuta skills and to achieve her goal of becoming Queen. She also works to help her friends and inspire them, even ones who've lost the passion they once had.
Music/Art: Loved the music! A rock style song in the beginning but a slow tempo song in the end. The upbeat song emphasizes the sport of karuto while the ED emphasized the beauty of it. I loved the character design!! It shows their special characteristics. Especially Porky and Desktomu-kun. ^_^
Overall: Inspiring and my favorite josei anime! Well, since I've only watched one. The reason I didn't give this a 10 is because I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. I wish there were more side plots, not only involving karuta. My interest started to fade in the middle of the series because it seemed like most of the episodes were just them practicing karuta or facing someone in karuta. They didn't even get into the possible love interest with Chihaya and Taichi and Arata. =/ But nonetheless I really liked it!

[REPOST] First beauty haul/review!

Hello people of the Internet!

I'm excited to share with you all my very first beauty haul/review! I'm still a beginner so please don't be too critical of me. : )

The BB Creams I got is from Pretty&Cute - Lioele Triple the Solution BB Cream SPF 30 pa ++ and a sample of Skin79 Hot Pink Super Plus Beblesh Balm. P&C are trustworthy to buy from, don't worry! I've bought from them multiple times and they always get to me.

Rating for Lioele: 4 out of 5
Pros
- Matches the best with my skin tone out of all other BB creams so far (not too light, not too tan)
- A TON of coverage; you can build on coverage
- Lasts you a long time (several months if not more if you don't use a lot of it like me)
- Cute packaging ♥
- No bad smell
- SPF so you don't need sunscreen!
- Works as a concealer for dark circles and hyperpigmentation/spots/acne scars
- Not as grey as most BB creams
Cons:
- Thick, so you need to blend well!
- Does not match my skin tone 100%
- Need to blot/powder after a few hours if you use a lot
- May not be suitable for people with too light skin or dark skin
Comments: I love this BB cream! It's actually my current favorite. I'm already almost finished with my first tube and I ordered it again as you can see. : ) I have a ton of acne scars and it covers it up real nicely. The only thing I don't like about it is that because I put a decent amount on my face about 1.5 pumps, my skin gets oily after a few hours if I'm out or working. I have a hard time finding a foundation or BB cream that matches my yellow skin tone and it oxidizes decently so that it doesn't look unnatural. Usually the foundation makes my face color and neck color different but Lioele matches me the best!

Rating for Skin79: 3 out of 5
Pros
- Lightweight
- Not thick
- Good for people with light skin
- Blends well
Cons:
- Grey (even though it oxidizes) so it can make your face look like it has a grey cast.
- Not a whole lot of coverage (so better for people with decent skin, unlike me)
Comments: I don't have a whole lot to say about this because I only used a sample of it. I didn't even use to whole sample and it still covered my face but the coverage was not good enough so my acne scars still showed and kind of made my face orange. :/ I probably had some oil on my skin that's why. Bloggers and Youtubers rave about this BB cream but I don't think it's for me. I think it would be better for Caucasian people because they have pink undertones while Asians generally have yellow undertones.

Swatches -- Lioele on the left, Skin79 on the right. As you can see, Lioele have much more yellow-ish undertones and Skin79 is grey ish.

The next portion of this haul/review, are all things I got from my local CVS.

First up, are these Wet n' Wild nail polishes from the "Spoiled" collection as well as Revlon's Extra Life Top Coat.

Names of polishes: metallic purple is called Are Mermaids Real? and the pink is called My Silicone Popped (odd name...).
Rating for W&W: 4 out of 5
Comments: These polishes are cute and they are so cheap! They were around $2, maybe even less. The Revlon top coat, though, was around $4. The only thing I didn't like about them is that the brushes were so big so I couldn't really decorate or make any patterns on my nails. They are okay for plain nails though. They dried decently but sometimes the polish would come off (maybe I need a stronger top coat?) from my cuticle. I don't have much to say about the top coat; it just dried fast. I'll probably get a cheaper top coat next time.

This is the FIT Maybelline New York in shade 120 with SPF 18

Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Comments: Usually I don't like how western foundations look on my skin but this one actually had a lot of yellow undertones. It did not match my skin tone perfectly but it was better than some BB creams like the Skin79 Oriental BB cream. However, as usual with Western foundations, I did not like the feel of this foundation. It was greasy and a little heavy. It was not thick though but it felt like something was on my face. Also, it was a little too dark for my face; I know it doesn't look that way in the swatch but it oxidized like that. I probably will not buy this again, only if I'm out of BB cream and am in an emergency.

This is the Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in Copper Chic

Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Comments: Love this quad! I feel like the colors match the best compared to the other quads out there (I have to purple quad too) and it can match all eye colors. I haven't tried the Give Me Gold palette but i'm gonna try it next time. It's missing 0.5 stars because I wish it would blend a bit better (perhaps I just need a better eyeshadow brush?). If you want a neutral eyeshadow combo, GET THIS! : )

This is the NYC Showtime Waterproof Volumizing Mascara and the Rimmel soft kohl white eyeliner.

Rating for mascara: 4 out of 5
Rating for white eyeliner pencil: 4.5 out of 5
Comments: Now, mascaras are not my expertise at all. This is the 2nd mascara I've used in my whole life. The mascara was one of the cheapest so I picked it up and I gotta say that it seems pretty decent. I wish it would make my lashes go more up and curved because it doesn't a lot even if I curl my lashes. It does, however, thicken my lashes quite a lot. There may be much better mascaras out there but this one gets the job done for me. For the white eyeliner, I love it! It was expensive about $5 but it blends really well and it's not too harsh of a white. I will show swatches of the white eyeliner later.

Next, I got the Revlon Lip Butter in Cupcake and the L'Oreal HiP Studio Secrets Professional Eye Liner pencil in Brown 995

Rating for lipstick: 3.8 out of 5
Rating for pencil: 4.5 out of 5
Comments: I finally got to try one of the much hyped and raved about Revlon Lip Butters. I love these because they are soo hydrating for your lips. However, this shade (Cupcake) was not 100% right for me. I also wish it was a little more matte and not so shimmery and lip gloss-like. I love that it is not that pigmented though and that you can build up on the color. I love this eyeliner pencil! I've never had brown eyeliner but I love it and will probably only use brown from now on. It looks much more natural and you can blend with it. Like it says on the pencil, it is highly pigmented but if you blend it it becomes more softer. I like to use this and neutral eyeshadow as a combo. It's sometimes hard to blend because it's so pigmented though but I can still work with it. : )

SWATCHES! For the white eyeliner, lip butter, and the brown eyeliner. Photo on left is not blended, right is blended.

(^ it looks slightly darker and more shimmery/thick in real life)

Well, that's the end of my beauty haul review! Hope you enjoyed and pick up some of these products yourself. : ) I will blog a cooking post one of these days and maybe a fashion one too! Pics of the mannequins I dress and what I buy and whatnot. Time to make dinner - soon dubu and cold cucumber soup (오이 냉국)  is on the menu. : D

♥ Have an awesome day! ♥

New blog!

Hihi~

Welcome to my new blog. ^^ My other blog is my-serendipitous-accident.blogspot.com FYI. I decided to make a new one because I felt that my main one was kind of cluttered ─ full of both personal posts and non-personal posts (particularly reviews). So now I'm deleting ALL non-personal posts on my personal blog and moving them here.

What to look forward to...

- Drama reviews (am almost finished with Rooftop Prince :D)
- Beauty hauls/reviews (those are a hassle so don't expect them often. I phail as a beauty blogger lolol.)
- Anime/manga reviews! (more of anime though)
- K-pop music reviews/thoughts
- Cooking?! Maybe.

I'm the type of person that likes to debate and give my opinion (not in person though... terrible with words). But the only problem is that I can procrastinate a lot because of more important matters in real life. But I do enjoy it. Hopefully this will be a regular thing. At least one post per week, hopefully.

Yup, that's all. ^^ Thanks for reading, bye!
